Alex Pate
Director of Ag. Business Advising
STAFF
Alex joined the team in January 2024 as Director of Agricultural Business Advising to lead the continued development of FoodCap’s Business Support programs. Focusing on increasing business viability for historically underserved regenerative farmers, he works collaboratively with the lending and communications teams, along with the Executive Director, to provide accessible and relevant 1:1, group, and self-guided resources to existing and emerging regenerative food business owners.
Alex earned a Masters of Crop Sciences from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 2021 and brings extensive experience in small and medium-scale soil and aquaculture farm management, permaculture design, urban agroforestry, mutual aid food distribution, coalition building, and educational programming. Having spent his early career teaching within Chicago Public Schools, his belief in experiential learning and interdisciplinary studies informs his ongoing exploration of the intersectionality of regenerative agriculture, ecology, food access, plant and soil sciences, land stewardship, local economies, business development, education, and culture in pursuit of food sovereignty. He earned his undergraduate degree in English Education from DePaul University in 2014. As a proud Chicago native currently living in Brooklyn, Alex finds a particular fulfillment in connecting urban populations to their regional foodsheds and proliferating informed ecologically conscious consumer habits.
