Alliance for Agriculture

Orocovis, Puerto Rico

0% interest bridge loan funded Sept. 2024

The Alliance for Agriculture is a non-profit dedicated to transforming the way agriculture is done in Puerto Rico. Founded in 2017 after Hurricane Maria, the Alliance was created to support the rebuilding of the PR economy, specifically the farmers and producers that make up the direct-to-consumer value chain.

Given the lack of infrastructure to easily get funds from the US mainland to organizations on the island, the Alliance has made it their mission to connect underserved farmers, ranchers, and food businesses with ongoing funding opportunities. They also provide various coordination services and technical assistance programming.

In 2023, Alliance for Agriculture was part of a successful USDA Regional Food Business Center application led by Virgin Islands Good Food Coalition. Their role in the partnership is to create links in the supply chain where they don't currently exist, better connecting producers with customers, markets, and federal/state/local resources. They'll do this work across Puerto Rico, as well as in the the US Virgin Islands and other locations in the Caribbean.

A 0% interest bridge loan from Foodshed Capital will provide the upfront

capital needed for Alliance for Agriculture to kick off work ahead of grant reimbursement.
