Since 2016, Michelle Flanagan has operated Heart Strings Farm in Dillsburg, PA with passion and dedication to rapidly disappearing heritage poultry breeds. With a laying flock of over 500 hens, Michelle utilizes mobile coops to rotate her layers throughout green pastures while supplementing with strictly non-GMO grain. On the hatchery side, Michelle sells fertile eggs and chicks, working to educate and bring awareness to endangered breeds of poultry. With the goal of expanding to include more wholesale egg sales, Heart Strings Farm has contracted with Kitchen Table Consultants to determine how this expansion can happen sustainably. A low-interest bridge loan from Foodshed Capital ensures no out-of-pocket cost as Heart Strings Farm awaits reimbursement from a Pennsylvania Farm Vitality grant.
