Founded in 2018, New Roots Community Farm is a nonprofit farm operating on land owned by the Agrarian Trust. New Roots is the only community farm in West Virginia and one of only a handful of farms growing vegetables in Fayette County.

Using regenerative practices like composting, cover cropping, reduced tillage, and amending with exclusively organic/OMRI-certified inputs, the farm also collects data on soil organic matter and is working to develop automated watering systems based on measurements of soil moisture.

New Roots successfully worked with a diverse group of stakeholders to establish the farm project, and has received and managed approximately $950,000 in federal, state, and foundation grants since 2018. Foodshed Capital was proud to support them with a low-interest loan to cashflow operations while they awaited a return on seasonal vegetables.
