Old 30 Dirty Family Farm

Jacksonville, NC

0% interest bridge loan funded Feb. 2025

Old 30 Dirty Family Farm, a small sustainable farm in coastal eastern North Carolina, is dedicated to community advocacy, unity, and volunteerism while demonstrating how regenerative farming nourishes both the land and people. Since 2022, Farmer/Owner Miya Yates has transformed her property into a model of resilience, starting with a community garden and gathering space for rest, learning, and mental health. This space soon became a hub for farming workshops, resource sharing, and expanded crop production for distribution across surrounding counties.

The farm practices low-till methods, crop rotation, composting, mulching, and companion planting to maintain soil health and plans to introduce cover crops in 2025 as part of a long-term regenerative strategy. In 2024, it produced eggs, herbs, flowers, garlic, onions, and leafy greens for wholesale to three area food hubs while launching an agritourism enterprise through Harvest Hosts. In 2025, Old 30 Dirty Farm aims to grow these revenue streams and pilot a cut-your-own flower enterprise.

To support this expansion, the farm secured a 75% cost-share agreement through the Oswald County Soil and Water Conservation District’s North Carolina Water Resources Assistance Program to install a new agricultural well.

A 0% interest loan from Foodshed Capital funded the installation ahead of reimbursement and covered the 10% cost-share obligation, ensuring stable cash flow for the early 2025 growing season.
