Sylvanaqua Farms is operated by Chris and Annie Newman in Virginia's Northern Neck. Founded in 2013 in Central Virginia, the couple moved to their current location in 2018 and operates on the historic Stratford Hall estate. They produce pastured chicken for meat and eggs, as well as forest-raised pork and small-scale beef. As a Black and Indigenous-owned operation, Sylvanaqua is dedicated to the advancement of collective land ownership and equity for BIPOC farmers, and Chris has been a vocal advocate for more equitable food systems. Sylvanaqua received a 0% loan in July 2020 to help them on their journey toward creating an economically sustainable and vertically integrated agricultural program.
