October 2021

We announce an upcoming workshop laying out various funding resources for farmers, and recap a recent grant made to support a Black-led growers cooperative in North Carolina.

September 2021

Fall is the time when farmers begin to wind down their season and prepare for next year. To that extent, we are super busy with loan applications heading into the fall. And we are excited to announce a large grant received in partnership with CIC in Charlottesville that will enable us to do a series of trainings for farmers in late 2021 and throughout 2022.

August 2021

We welcome our new Director of Operations Erica Hellen to our team. She takes over the monthly newsletter! We also welcome two new board members, Tracey Wiley and Darrow Isaacman-VanWetz. Our latest loan is to regenerative farm Graze Away LLC in Rappahannock, Virginia.

July 2021

We announced that we were adding to staff and hiring for a Communications and Development Associate. July was also an exciting time for some developments relating to loans we made in 2019. And we announced our membership to Appalachian Community Capital.

May 2021

Our regional expansion progresses further with our first loan in Maryland. We are excited about a loan to Juniper’s Garden in Brandywine. We are also looking forward to the opportunity to collaborate with Future Harvest on their Beginning Farmer Training Program.

April 2021

Our regional expansion continues with our first loan in North Carolina. In other news, our farm partners remain busy with the projects backed by Foodshed Capital’s financing. Special shout-outs of gratitude this month to 4P Foods and Real Local RVA.

March 2021

We closed out the quarter with another busy month of lending. We also announced the addition of a new team member, Briana Stevenson, who will help us develop our Black Farmer Equity Fund. And we are excited to be expanding into Northern New York through a partnership with ANCA.

February 2021

Our busy pace of lending continues with another $51,000 in loans. We also featured amazing work being down at Broadfork Farm and are excited to announce the hiring of a new position in partnership with Local Food Hub.

January 2021

We got off to a busy start to the year with three loans totaling nearly $72,000, our biggest month ever. We also are involved in several other initiatives, including a pilot for a Black Farmer Equity Fund and a partnership with Agrarian trust.

December 2020

As this difficult year comes to a close we reflect back with gratitude on what we’ve been able to achieve with the support of so many people, and we look forward to a busy 2021.

October 2020

A SOIL Loan to RealRoots Food Systems in Richmond highlighted our work in October. We also had some great examples of Nurture Capital at work, including a bridge loan to support an NRCS EQIP High Tunnel grant to Verdant Acres Farm.

September 2020

We made the first five bridge loans as part of our collaboration with the Farm Vitality Planning Grant program. We also made another SOIL Loan in Central Virginia, to ShireFolk Farm, and we’re excited to announce funding from USDA Rural Development.
